Bridal fashion photography – Raleigh, NC

A few weeks ago a colleague of mine, Kittie Deemer, and I put together the “Unportrait Portrait” session.  This was Kittie’s brainchild and when she told me about it, I was immediately up to help organize.  “what was it” you ask?  Good question!  As a wedding photographer, many times we are pressed for time and rarely have the opportunity to  not worry about how the photography turns out – in other words, total artistic freedom.  The Unportrait Portrait session really focused on letting the photographer shoot exactly how they wanted without worrying about getting a “safe” shot.

To achieve this, we enlisted the assistance of two very talented models, Heather & Lauren, poured them into a few different wedding dresses and went to downtown Raleigh with a total of 6 photographers, 2 models, 3 dresses & 1 scarf (RIP).  The sun was out, the winds were blowing approximately 40 mph and we suffered only one casualty, the scarf.  It was literally ripped from our models hand and soared over 15 stories in the air before landing somewhere on top of a parking deck.  With the impending weather, we didn’t bother to look for it.  During our dinner break, the weather decided we should work on indoor shooting and The Big Easy came to our rescue.  They literally let us have the run of the place and with such rich textures, great ambient light and vibrant colors, it really made our evening.

Special thanks to everyone who participated – Ken, Bob, Patti, and Frank!

Will & Lee – Buddhist wedding in Raleigh, NC

This weekend was one I had been looking forward to for some time. The reason being is their ceremony would be held in a Buddhist temple and it would be my first time photographing this type of ceremony. Well, the wait was well worth it. The temple was absolutely beautiful adorned with eastern stylings (bamboo floors, orchids, exposed wood beams and yes, a large gold Buddha). As this was my first time, I was amazed at the differences between the western and eastern ceremonies. For example, the “marriage certificate” was signed during the ceremony by both Will & Lee as well as their parents. Ritual chants & prayers were held as well as an incense prayer.

I was very happy to play a role in Will & Lee’s day and I wish them all the best in their new lives together. Now on to the photos:
