Rachel & Ed – Engagement Session in Chapel Hill NC

I met Rachel at the January 2009 Bridal show and, as it turns out, her family knows my in-laws (no pressure right?) so I have been looking forward to working with her and her Fiance for a while now.  They both grew up in and around Chapel Hill so shooting their engagement session on the UNC campus was an easy choice.  As an added bonus I get to see inside their church and, let me digress, I am SOOO excited to be photograping at a church that has honest to goodness LIGHT in it!  Ok, back to the e-session…  as I like to do, we met up and just walked around picking our spots to photograph.  I typically throw away my first few shots as most people are a little nervous at having a camera pointed at them.  That really wasn’t the case here…  As soon as Ed and Rachel locked up in their first embrace, it was obvious they were immediately comfortable and even though we didn;t set out to have a huggy/touchy/feely e-session, I don’t think I could of gotten them apart.

As we walked around the Campus, we stopped at the old well, a wonderful brick sidewalk, the UNC gardens (complete with trees to climb) and I finally got to do a shot I’ve really been wanting for a while involving pedestrians and a crosswalk.

So, without further nonsense from me, I’d like to present Rachel & Ed!

Anna’s Angels – Benefit @ Prestonwood Country Club

This weekend was the Annual Anna’s Angels benefit for Downs Syndrome research.  This was my 3rd Anna’s Angels benefit I’ve been invited to but, unfortunately (for the past two years anway) it was the first time I could make it all the way thru.  I had been asked to cover this for Cary Magazine and I jumped at the chance given the importance of the benefit.  I met Michelle & Anna a few years ago as one of my first “portrait” assigments for Cary Magazine so it was great to see Michelle again and find out how Anna has been.

The black-tie benefit held at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC has all proceeds going to Downs Syndrome research.  In the past 5 years, over $400,000 dollars has been raised by sales of Anna’s cookbook, donations and benefits such as this one.  It was a real pleasure to be in attendance and watch, even during these challening economic times, the local community give back to a worthy cause.  With a silent & live auction, fabulous dinner, DJ & Dancing, the evening certainly was an overwhelming success.

Here’s a few photos from the evening.
