WakeMed opens in Apex, NC

Tonight I went out to cover the private opening of the new WakeMed hospital in Apex, NC.  It’s a beautiful 4 story facility boasting a helicopter landing pad, emergency room, full surgical facilities (opening soon) as well as a full compliment of imaging and diagnosis tools.  The inside of the facility is state-of-the-art and I know WakeMed is very proud to have such a top of the line facility in a growing community.  Here’s a few shots from the evening:

Guilford County - A guided tour!

This weekend I got the opportunity to run around Greensboro & High Point with another photographer and formal bridal client. Jessica is the photographer for 99 blocks, a weekly Greensboro magazine highlighting all things downtown. She took pity on my lack of local knowledge and volunteered to take me around downtown Greensboro and High Point. When we started off the day, at ground level, all seemed well and we thought we were sensibly dressed. As soon as we got to the 8th floor of the parking deck with the wind, we found out otherwise. Jessica was a real trooper and toughed it out. I probably should of been more cautious as I am now sporting one nice pair of chapped lips.

We traveled all around taking photos, downtown, the Airport, got to climb inside an awesome leer jet, worked with some great architecture and generally had a great time! Here’s a few photos from the days travels:

Mens Fashion - The Marlin Club - Cary, NC

A couple times a year I am fortunate enough to be involved with fashion photography. This latest adventure had all the makings of a wonderfully unique and eye-catching session with 5 male models. They generously donated their time on their days off from the Cary Police Department to please the fashion gods. :) Seth, Josh, Ricky, Keith & Tony were all true pros and we really captured some great shots from the day. Out of roughly 375 frames, I have 100 keepers that I just can’t bear to cut down anymore. In all seriousness, I cannot say enough good things about our models. With having little to no modeling experience, I can easily see these photos in a large market magazine talking about the latest male fashions. Hats off to you guys!

Day at the Spa

My latest shoot is a continuance of the “different” places I photograph. I tagged along with Jonathon to visit 3 Spa’s in Cary & Raleigh. On the list was The Spa by Mitchell’s, The Umstead Spa & Blue Water Spa. Over the course of the day, he was pounded, pulled, lubricated, hydrated, cleaned, tenderized and finally, a little cooked. The previous description is, of course, all in good humor as Johnathon emerged, literally, a new man after visiting our 3 spas. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their hospitality. As you can imagine, most spas are very sensitive about letting a camera in for a behind the scenes look at their operations. Here’s a few photos from the day:

Waiting for Spring…

Shooting for editorial purposes can be challenging at times. If you’re an avid reader, you’ll remember me discussing shooting Christmas Ornaments in September when its 90 degrees outside. Well this latest shoot was no different. Preparing for a spring issue, we worked with flowers, plants and flower boxes. Luckily the weather was cooperating so it was around 50 degrees or so, but the available light with the suns lower orientation just said winter. Hats off to my two assistants for holding reflectors most of the day and also for successfully deciphering my cryptic directions. On a side note, I’d love to see a scientific study on why my ability to speak logically disappears when I’m photographing. I’m sure it has something to do with the artistic (left) side of the brain being used more then the right side… but I digress.

Here’s a few photos from the shoot:
