After a shoot this past week, another photographer and I were talking about different techniques for shooting and lighting. I decided to try something I had seen but never had the time to actually try. This lighting technique involves using a “cookie” (No, not like the toll house cookies) in between your light source and subject. The results can be rather unique and I think this one really turned out nicely. She said she wanted it as fine art - I wouldn’t go that far but it was pretty cool.

When photographers get together…
Bridal Portrait - Cary, NC
I had the distinct pleasure of working with Kristina Maddry on her bridal portrait. We had planned on photographing at the Raleigh Little Theater rose garden but due to the weather, we ended up using a small studio in Cary, NC. Kristina didn’t have any preconceived notion of what she wanted for her portrait, so we ended up shooting a variety of poses and styles to really get a nice selection of choices. We had an absolute blast and I’m sure Kristina will love the end result. Here’s a few shots from todays session:
Bigger photos are here!
After a recent review of all the weddings, editorial and commercial photography projects I’ve posted on my blog, one thing immediately came to me… the photos were just TOO small! As a photographer, I’d be happy to see my work full size on everyone’s computer screen but the technology for that just doesn’t exist on blogs yet, so I made a few concessions. Overall, I think the new size should fit on the majority of peoples screens but i’m always open for your feedback. Hope you enjoy!
School Projects - Cary, NC
This week I was called to photograph some activities arranged by parents when their kids are “tracked out” in the year round schedule. Two projects were setup for the kids, a (and this is my term, not theirs) “bug-sucker” and a homemade ice cream maker.
The bug-sucker is a clear plastic container with two pieces of tubing going into it. One side is covered with gauze (on the inside of the container) and the other is open. It’s used to, well, suck a bug into the container to examine it without hurting it. When you are done, simply open the container and release it.
The homemade ice cream maker are two metal cans with one big enough so the other can fit inside. You fill the smaller one with cream, milk, vanilla, sugar and any other flavorings you want. Seal that container with duct tape and lower it inside the bigger container. Once it’s inside, you then fill the big container with ice and rock salt and tape that one shut. Once complete, you can play soccer, hot potato or any other game that will churn the contents.
Overall, alot of fun was had by everyone (including me) and we got some great photographs. Special thanks goes out to Impact Athletics in Cary for letting us use a space in their facility for the projects and photography. Here are a few photos from the day:
Azi & Sam - Raleigh, NC Wedding - March 29th, 2008
I met Azi & Sam a few months back in their search for a wedding photographer who could capture the memories of their big day. As soon as we met I knew we would get along famously and, as fate would have it, they booked me a few days after our initial meeting. Azi & Sam’s big day started out at a BEAUTIFUL house in Raleigh. Both Azi & Sam went thru their preparations there and I happily photographed every second knowing that every background I captured would come out beautifully. Azi’s dress was breath taking and really was appropriate given the fairy tale surroundings. After the photos were done, we actually arrived EARLY to the reception hall in Bedford so we took the opportunity to take some additional shots in the limo while driving around to find another photo opportunity. We certainly found one in the form of a flowering Bradford pear tree.
We really captured some unique and beautiful imagery on Azi & Sam’s big day! It was a true pleasure to have them as my clients and I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS once again. Here are a few photos from the day.
