Cassandra & Jeremy - Married in Raleigh, NC on October, 25th

This weekend I had the enjoyment of photographing Jeremy & Cassandra’s wedding.  I met them in February of this year and while the wait seemed like an eternity, now that I look back at when we first met it feels like just a moment ago.  They were married at the beautiful Fairmont Methodist Church and held their reception at the 1880 hall at the Longview Center in downtown Raleigh.  The high clouds gave us some beautiful light to work with outside and both the church and reception hall had a beautifully unique feel and warmth to them.  Downtown Raleigh was having a creep crawl, or something like that, so as the reception was ending and everyone was watching the couple ride off in their bicycle gondola, you had some unique creatures roaming the streets adding to the party like atmosphere.  What an unexpected way to end a wonderful day!

The happy couple is honeymooning this week but hopefully they can log onto a computer and get a sneak peek of the below shots.  You can view the entire gallery here (password required).

I wish the both of them a very happy life together!

Meet Amy!

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with Amy and Rommie this week.  They are in the planning stages for their 2009 wedding in Raleigh and were kind enough to meet with me regarding their photography.  Amy has such a bubbly and infectious personality I found myself smiling simply by hearing her describe her plans for the big day. I don’t want to spoil the plans by making them public, but I can say that from what she’s told me so far, the wedding surely will be a beautiful and unforgettable event.

Here’s a shot of the happy bride:

Meet Christa!

Tonight I had the real pleasure of sitting down with Christa, who is getting married in May of next year in Raleigh, NC.  Due to both of our schedules, Christa and I had been talking over e-mail about what she’s looking for in a photographer and when we finally sat down, we spent quite some time talking about it in great detail.  Her wedding certainly sounds like it will be a wonderful affair and I certainly hope to be able to capture it for her and her (soon to be) new husband, John.

Here’s a quick photo of her after we had been talking for a while.  She’s still smiling so I think that’s a good sign.  :)  In the backround is her friend, bridesmaid & roommate (and possible future client) Julie.  :)

Flash photography Workshop - Neil Van Niekerk

On Monday of this week, Neil Van Niekerk - one of the most well known wedding photographers for their work using flash - visited us in Raleigh to conduct a one day workshop on, well, flash.  I had really been aching for Neil to come close enough for me to make the trip because his flash work is something I really strive to mimic.

It certainly was a long day with enough technical information and theory to cause a photography “reboot” inside my head.  I think it was actually perfect because some of his techniques are very counter-intuitive at first…. then you see the results and after you pick your jaw up from the floor, you realize there is another whole new world available to you with flash.

If you’re a photographer and reading this - GO SEE HIM!.  If you’re a client, hopefully you’ll enjoy the photos below and realize that, just because it’s at night, we can still get some really striking photography.  All of these images are taken during the seminar.

First - Someone shot Neil…  Not sure quite who but I know we had 3 cameras pointed at him.

Now for some stuff during the day using fill flash.

Here’s some stuff from after dinner with only the ambient streetlight and fill flash.

Japanese Diplomats & Business visit NC!

Once a year, the leaders of industry, education and government from North Carolina and Japan congregate for a relationship & knowledge sharing session.  This year the conference was held in North Carolina and I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph their initial gathering at the Research triangle Foundation and a very exclusive dinner held at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

The welcoming event, held at the Research Triangle Foundation in RTP welcomed all the participants and everyone was treated to a short presentation by Governor Mike Easley.  Immediately following the reception, a dinner was held for the VIP’s at the Art Museum in downtown Raleigh.  After dinner, the VIP’s were treated to an incredible short theatrical presentation by 3 very talented Broadway performers.  Dressed as “living statues” in all white, these three incredibly talented performers sang 5-6 operatic songs in fluent italian.  I’ve never seen anything like it and while I love the photos, it just doesn’t do the mood justice.

Overall, the event was absolutely gorgeous and even though I don’t have much experience in overseas diplomatic relations, it was easy to see the bridges being built and relationships founded between everyone invited.

Here’s a few shots of the evening!
