First let me thank you for visiting my blog. I’m a part-time professional photographer involved in commercial, editorial and wedding photography. I am the Chief Photographer for Cary Magazine and also help out on assignments for sister publications of Triangle East Magazine, Garner Business & Cary Business. I’ve been involved with Cary Magazine since 2006 and have been dabbling in photography since high school - no, I won’t tell you when I graduated. :)

Photography, for me, is a passionate affair that lets me express both my technical and artistic sides. It is a true labor of love and I spend almost every waking minute, when I’m not working my day job, studying, photographing, editing or talking photography.

I’d love to hear your comments on my blog. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your stay!

Amie & Holt - Raleigh, NC Wedding

One of the things I really like about being a photographer is getting to know not only the Bride & Groom, but their families as well.  Over the past several months, I have had the fortune to get to know not only the lucky couple, but their parents as well.  So when the big day arrived this weekend, I really looked forward to seeing everyone again.

Amie & Holt were married at the Edenton Street Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC.  This is a beautiful Church with wonderful architecture and humongous stained glass windows.  OF course, photographically speaking, I love shooting in places like this as it affords so many opportunities to mix wedding photography with architectural and artistic stylings.  A short limo ride later and we all arrived at the North Ridge Country Club for the reception.  The last time I was here (which was some time ago) the ballroom we were in did not exist.  So it was quite a nice surprise when I came in to see 9 beautiful chandeliers hanging up, a band on the permanent stage and decadent furnishings in every corner.

The band, the flabbergasters, played up a great mix of beach, rock and even rap to get the party started.  Everyone really enjoyed their evening (and I have proof in the photographs) and it was my absolute pleasure to work with Amie, Holt and their families.

Katie & Nathan - Welcome, North Carolina Wedding

That’s correct, Welcome NC. I hadn’t heard of it either until I met Katie & Nathan late last year. They both live in Greensboro but the church in Welcome, NC holds special significance for them. As I enjoy traveling, I was definitely excited about the trip and looked forward to this weekend.

Nathan & Katie are one of the sweetest couples I know. It had been a while since I saw them last and I’m sure Nathan got a good chuckle when I kept looking for him with no luck. Well, shaving the beard off didn’t help me out any either. :) They brought their own officiant into the church and it was a great sermon. Giving advice on keeping a healthy marriage (Go to bed at the same time, occasionally sacrifice your own desires for those of your partner, and hit the pub every once in a while to relax). :)

We had a great time working together and it’s sad I only post a few images of the day on my blog. There are so many more to choose from… well, with that being said, on to the photos!

A day with Tero Sade…

Well, more like a long afternoon.  On Monday I traveled to Charlotte, NC for a one-day seminar with Tero Sade.  You probably don’t know the name unless you’re a photographer, or live in Australia or Tasmania, or both.  Tero is a very, very successful portrait photographer who can claim he has built not one, but two multi-million dollar portrait studios from scratch.  He was lecturing on the business of portrait photography and described the marketing and promotions that worked for him.

Of course, we got to see his work as well which is fantastic (always helps), but I really came away with some ideas for marketing and promoting my business for both portraits and weddings.

Alas, I didn’t bring my camera but I did capture one shot of my nametag.  :)

Amber & Nick - Raleigh, NC Wedding

I met Amber late last year and talked about her wedding day. It was slightly bittersweet for me as her fiance’ was overseas in active duty. Nick is in the air force and was in an active duty role while his bride to be planned their wedding. I can’t possibly imagine the worries Amber went thru while Nick was still deployed but all turned out for the best and Nick made it home safe and sound.

So it turns out the day of the wedding was the first time I had ever met Nick. We got to know each other a bit while I photographed and, while talking, I tried to hide my amazement that somehow, almost every groomsman he had was taller then I was (and I’m 6′5″).

The wedding took place in downtown Raleigh at the 1st presbyterian church and the reception was held at the Crabtree Marriott. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and Amber was a breathtaking bride! I really enjoyed working with the both of them and their families. I look forward to their return from the honeymoon to show off some of the amazing photos we were able to capture on their joyous occasion.

Kim & Kentraille - Engagement session

I met Kim & Kentraille through a former bride I photographed last December. When they told me they wanted an engagement session, Immediately got excited as they are both very affectionate people and I knew the e-session would be one to remember! We decided on photographing in Yates Mill Pond Park - In Raleigh, NC as they are both outdoors lovers and the park has such a beautiful backdrop. They also love playing scrabble so I asked them bring a game along so we could integrate it into the shoot.

As we went thru the session I really lost track of time as it was such a pleasure working with the both of them. I’m really looking forward to their wedding in August!

As always, here are a few shots from the session:
