Christmas Decorations | Magazine Photography

OK, so it’s an odd experience when trying to shoot Christmas decorations in September, when its 90 degrees outside, but so goes the profession of magazine photography. My latest experience involves shooting a home decorated by professional decorator Karen Bollinger of Decoration rescue Cary, NC.

We were invited to view and photograph her Christmas decorations  at one of her clients homes. With 2 beautiful trees setup as well as garland on the fireplace and banisters, it certainly help us forget about the 90+ degree temperatures outside. Again, Magazine Photography certainly has its interesting days.  One thign was immediately obvious about the decorations, while they were indeed beautiful and unique with the glass ornaments, Christmas lights and reds, greens and golds, they are not the easiest things in the world to photograph.  For those photographers, amateur and professional alike reading my photography blog, I want to leave you with one thought.. how do you photograph a round christmas ornament without being in the photo yourself?

Example A – I just went with the flow and got a rather unique self portrait.
